Dr. Craig Stevens

Hello High Plains Community!

I’m extremely proud to be the new principal of High Plains Elementary School.  I am a life-long educator and teacher at heart!  I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, masters in administration and a doctorate of education from the University of Oklahoma.  I have twenty-eight years of experience in public education in Oklahoma.  I taught 5th grade for eight years.  I was then an assistant principal for three years, and I have been an elementary principal for the last seventeen years.  I have also taught summer school in multiple grade levels for remedial and gifted reading and math, and been the district summer school principal over ten different summers in Norman.  I have also been an adjunct professor at the University of Oklahoma teaching such courses as "The Principalship" and "Models of Instruction."  I have also taught online college education courses in my spare time for over ten years for the University of Phoenix.

I have been married to my wife, Wendy, for twenty-nine years, and we have six children.  Our two youngest boys, Grady and Tate moved to Colorado with us.  Our oldest, Chase and his wife Kathryne, who is a middle school teacher, will stay in Oklahoma.  Tana, our second oldest has relocated to Colorado Springs teaching middle school in Harrison District 2.  Our two middle daughters, Dylan and Stevie, are staying in Norman and finishing their degrees at the University of Oklahoma.  Stevie is studying Elementary Education and Dylan is studying Human Resources.  We are also excited to get closer to family in Colorado.  My parents are retired and live in Bailey, my brother and his family live in Lakewood.

I am honored to join the High Plains Team and District 20! Go Wolves!
