Meet the Teacher - Mrs. Patty Tsosie
I am Colorado raised! I have been teaching for 28 years. This is my 22nd year at High Plains.
Curriculum
 
Literacy
We use the Wonders Curriculuum and supplement with Nancy Fetzer for small group reading and writing

Math
We follow state standards for Counting and Cardinality, Addition and Subtaction within 5 and Geometry to include 2D and 3D shapes.

Social Studies
   Themes are taught through Reading program

Science
   Senses
   Wood
   Myself and Others are taught through Reading series

Snacks: 
  NO Nut Products Please! We have allergies!
Monthly snack calendars go out. Please bring simple, healthy snacks that
students can pass out. Ideas: cut up fruit, veggies, fruit snacks, crackers
(cheese, graham, animal, etc). No drinks please.
 Birthdays: I will schedule snack on or around your child's birthday. They may bring a snack. We will sing and have snack together.

Field Trips:
  Will be scheduled as opportunities arise
 
Class Parties:
Organized by Room Parent. Each party involves crafts, games, and
treats. If you would like to contribute or help in planning, contact Mrs. Tsosie or
the Room Parent.

   End of the Year
 
Everyday Folders:
The folders you received will be used as the everyday folder for class. This folder
will contain items from the office as well as homework packets, PTO
announcements, and book orders (from time to time). Please take the time to go
through the folder each day. These folders are to be returned to class everyday
of each week so that we will have time to load up all the goodies to go home for
the week.
 
Volunteers:
Volunteers will be scheduled and hopefully we will be able to start ASAP. Thanks
for sharing your time with us! To volunteer, you must complete paperwork in
the office for a background check.
 
Attendance:
Class starts promptly at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 3:15 pm. Due to policy, the back
door to kindergarten will be locked after these times. If your child is late please go through the front office and get a pass to class. If your child is going to be
absent, please contact the front office that morning (234-4700 - you can leave a message). 
Late start days (snow, etc. - students will start at 10:15).

ULER is an acronym that stands for Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing and Regulating emotions. RULER is an approach to creating a positive learning climate and developing emotional skills of all adults and students within the school. It is a mindset and a language with which everyone in the school community can talk about their emotions. RULER is a school-wide approach that focuses first on developing adults personally and professionally so they can be role models and knowledgeable implementers of the skill-based instruction for students. The goals of RULER are to create a positive emotional climate and to enhance emotional intelligence in adults and students.
