Welcome to our 4th grade class! I'm looking forward to a wonderful year.
Meet the Teacher
This is my third year working at High Plains. I have taught both 4th and 5th grade, spent several years working in Special Education, and several years working as a children's librarian. I have a bachleor's degree in Sociology from the University of Northern Colorado and a master's degree in elementary education with an emphasis on curiculum instruction from the same university. In my free time I enjoy reading, gardening, and hiking with my husband and two dogs.
A daily, healthy snack is highly encouraged. We have snack every morning after specials. Students may bring a second healthy snack to have during afternoon recess if they so wish.

At school, we want to feel: respected, accepted, calm, smart, and excited.
- We will help each other feel respected by treating others how we want to be treated, stopping when asked to stop, and being helpful.
- We will help each other feel accepted by saying kind things, inviting others to play, sharing, and being kind.
- We will help ourselves and others feel calm by thinking happy, calm thought; taking deep breaths; and not yelling.
- We will help each other feel smart by being our best selves, complementing people, helping others, and giving positive reinforcement.
- We will help each other feel excited by sharing exciting news, reminding each other what's coming up, doing activities together, and being polite and positive.
When someone is sad or hurt, we can:

5+ minutes of math fact practice
A total of 100 reading minutes and 30 math minutes are due each week.
Research shows that the best thing students can do at home to improve their academics at school is to spend time reading and practicing their math facts each night. For students who have a solid grasp of their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts may practice other math skills as their math minutes each night.
Reading minutes may be accomplished by reading alone, reading to/with someone, or being read to.
